  1. Banning Fur Trade in the Uk

For the Labour Party to put a ban on the fur trade in their election manifesto and advance legislation after the 2015 general election. The proposal would be to ban the import and sale of all fur products.

    • Nepotism is corruption

In all areas of the jobs market - from the media to the NHS - I am either witnessing or hearing about nepotism in how positions and perks are being allocated and secured. It is often a familiar story: commonly someone ensuring that a relative gets a job, but there are also many instances of ethnic and gender favouritism going on. It's rife and has clearly worsened considerably since austerity policies began and the competition for jobs tightened. But it remains deeply wrong, unfair to our young people whatever their background... and at root corrupt. As with any form of…

      • Stop the Government from destroying Birds Nests and Eggs!

        Dear 38 Degrees,

This vile Tory government are seeking to rush through legislation to legalise the destruction of wild birds nests and eggs. It just so happens the persons behind this developing legislation are property developers and Tory Party donors!

I have never asked you for anything before but this is something that people will care about and I'm sure that they will support it.

It may seem a little unimportant next to the death and destruction this government are dealing out, but this matters too.

        Please launch a campaign!

        Kind regards,
        Lewis

        • Strengthen the Female Genital Mutliation Act to improve prosecution chances

Currently FGM is illegal in the UK but the law is poor and has not yet resulted in one conviction. This law needs strengthening in the following ways:
Anonymity needs to be guaranteed for all victims, just as it is in rape cases. Anonymity needs to be granted to prosecution witnesses where they may face persecution from communities that promote this practice. Anonymity needs to be given to the accused where it is necessary to protect the victim.
Parents and legal guardians should have a legal duty to prevent FGM being carried out on girls in their care. If a…

          • Campaign against the Trans-Atlantic Investment Partnership

This a global anti-democratic neo-liberal manifesto. Buiness/profit before people. It has a killer clause "Investor state dispute settlement" Thus allowing corporations to contest national government social, education health, environmental and health & safety and policy; these would be deemed as "business irritants' E.g. Swedish energy company Vattenfall is suing the German Government over it's decision to phase out nuclear power. and European companies launched cases against Egypt for raising it's minimum wage, and many more.

            • Replace the bedroom tax by a tax on second home ownership

Replacing the bedroom tax, which discriminates against the less well off, with a tax on second homes would be one of many ways to help towards a fairer society. Second home building as part of a policy of building simply on the grounds that there is a “demand” has resulted in the ruination of vast swathes of our coast and countryside, caused wildlife habitat loss on a desparate scale, wrecked communities and contributed to problems arising from climate change such as flooding. Britain is too small and overcrowded for such uncontrolled development to be sustainable. Also it does nothing to…

              • Make sex-based hate speech a criminal offense

There are protections from hate content for people based on religion, race and sexual orientation, but none exists to protect women as a class.

In real life and online, women face abuse of epidemic proportions. Online alone, this includes publishing of women's workplaces, home addresses and phone numbers with direct calls to harassment and sex-based violence. There is posting and replication of sexually abusive content that includes pictures leaked without women's and girls knowledge or consent, and videoed rape.

So far the law is shown to have waited for these crimes and more to occur, before any steps are taken…

                • The dumping of Syrian chemical weapons into the Med.

Many countries border this vital sea whose capacity is small and already challenged by illegal flushing of oil tankers and tourist based pollution. Fishermen depend on it. Tourism depends on it. It is the lifeblood of man millions of people This latest insult to the biosphere may be one too many. We need to get the UN and national governments to tell us how much of this toxic crap is being dumped and we need an environmental impact analysis by an independent expert before this is allowed to continue

                  • Against the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Bill – URGENT ACTION NEEDED

I was shocked by this article in today’s Guardian by George Monbiot about the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Bill: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/06/law-to-stop-eveyone-everything

George Monbiot explains that the bill would permit injunctions against anyone of 10 or older who "has engaged or threatens to engage in conduct capable of causing nuisance or annoyance to any person". It would replace asbos with ipnas (injunctions to prevent nuisance and annoyance), which would not only forbid certain forms of behaviour, but also force the recipient to discharge positive obligations. In other words, they can impose a kind of community service order on people who have…

                    • Keep Devon Green

Picture the scene...you're heading down to Britain's beautiful South West, a part of Britain known for rolling hills, open moors, quaint market towns & sandy beaches. As you cross the border into Devon you're greated by 'Woodlands' a 230 acre out-of-town retail, leisure & business park funded by AXA Global Real Estate, based between the villages of Uffculme & Willand. Instead of miles of Devon countryside, AXA want this to be the 'Gateway to Devon' despite the damage it will do to the local environment and economies of the historic market towns or Tiverton & Cullompton.

                      • Is IDS displaying classic symptoms OF SPS (Small Penis Syndrome). Is he venting his frustration by hitting the poor where it hurts the most?

Is IDS displaying classic symptoms OF SPS (Small Penis Syndrome). Is he venting his frustration by hitting the poor where it hurts the most? Right wing think tanks have admitted that 68,000 had their benefits unfairly disrupted in the past year! Let’s collect 100,000 signatures and ask him in parliament if this is the reason why he is being so unfair to his fellow UK citizens that have found themselves in the unfortunate position of needing to claim benefits.

                        • Write letters to GPs to vote against charging for visits.

On 22nd May in York GPs will vote on whether to propose charging for GP visits. If they decide to do so this would set in motion the end of the NHS set up in 1948 'free at the point of use' and would ensure that poorer people will be unfairly disadvantaged. The majority of the population is against this and the only people who will gain are private healthcare companies who will suddenly be in demand, and their shareholders (including many MPs in the present government who are 'coincidentally' starving the NHS of funds). The proposal is for people…

                          • Ban Flouride in UK drinking water.. Government plans to Flouridate ALL UK water

Leaked Government Paper - Government plans to flouridate all UK Ddrinking water. (mail online14th feb 2014)
Flouride is a toxic waste and poisonous the the human / environmental system.

Ministers will introduce the change in amendments later this month to the Water Bill, allowing the 28 strategic health authorities in England to order the fluoridation of water after local consultation.

A document signed by health and environment ministers last month concludes that opponents are in the minority and that 'this minority should not be allowed to deprive health communities from opting for fluoridation by insisting on an indefinite research programme'.

                            • Against the US-EU free trade agreement which threatens all European public services as well as many regulations (Food, GMO, fracking, etc.)

The US-EU free trade agreement (TTIP : Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) is extremely important because it will make lots of struggles completely pointless, especially for the NHS but also against fracking.
The most proeminent points of the TIPP are:
                              - elimination of all trade tariffs and the reduction of all tariff barriers
                              - more closely tied cooperation among the EU and US regulatory bodies protection
                              - restriction of subsidies to state-owned enterprises (e.g: NHS, Education, Justice etc.)

Prioritising ‘regulatory harmonisation’ means bringing together the regulatory frameworks of the EU and the US, making them much more alike. Many areas…

                                  • Arms Length Government Body to Repatriate Profits from ShortSelling

We need a government funded body to assess and claw back all profits ever made from short selling and redistribute those monies to the then legitimate true owners of the shares/paper. Sounds difficult, not very difficult. Create loads of jobs for fair-minded people. Reasons:- The shares/paper didnt really exist as they were not part of the issued share capital of the organisation concerned, therefore they notionally belonged to you and I, the legitimate owners of those shares/paper/bonds etc. Fairs Fair!

                                    • A total ban on halal & any other religious slaughter of animals here in the UK

We must ban this cruel method of slaughter here in the UK as Denmark has. Our Chief Vet has said it is cruel and the MP's must listen. Religious slaughter must end now.

                                      • people being charged £10 - £25 for GP or NHS appointments

For average hardworking people to write to their GP and advise them to inform the BMA to vote NO regarding the new charging service as their patients would no longer be able to afford visits to their GP. That the NHS should remain a free service and that by voting no we are protecting the vulnerable in our society, the young children, the elderly and those unable to cope who require constant support.
So write to your GP today and tell them to vote no to the BMA by the 22nd may 2014 and keep the NHS services free.

                                        • Clear labelling of all meats, Halal or non halal. Blessed or non blessed, stunned or not.

We are currently often completely unaware if the meat we are eating is Halal food or not. "Halal" means permissible in accordance with Islamic law must be performed by a Muslim, who must precede the slaughter by invoking the name of Allah, most commonly by saying "Bismillah" ("In the name of God") and then three times "Allahu akbar" (God is the greatest). Then, the animal must be slaughtered with a sharp knife by cutting the throat etc. Often the animal is not stunned which leads to unnecessary suffering. Clear labelling needs to put in place so we can act with…
