I suggest a campaign about ...

Stop all Buy-To-Let tax breaks, have Build-To-Let tax breaks instead

Buy to Let investors get favourable tax treatment, the ability to offset mortgage interest against rental income, CGT relief (lower than income tax), tax relief on maintenance etc. BTL investors are also able to use equity from previous gains as 'deposit' for purcahses.

Most of the properties bought by BTL investors are homes that First Time Buyers would like to buy, but the tax breaks and deposit requirements allow the BTL investor to out-bid the FTB, they then rent the property to the outbid FTB.

There is no healthy economic output from this arrangement, no new jobs, house prices are pushed up which have priced out an entire generation and have to pay the landlord rent rather than paying down a mortgage.

Roll back the tax breaks for Buy To Let, and introduce tax breaks for Build to Let which would create jobs and increase the housing supply
