Exempting food retailers from donating surplus supplies without the risk of being sued
We request a clause in Health and Safety law to exempt food retailers from the risk of being sued when giving away surplus supplies.
In the UK this fear stops many businesses from donating surplus food. Instead, 400,000 tonnes of useable food is thrown away each year while 4 million people suffer from food poverty. In the USA the ‘Good Samaritans Clause’ exempts food retailers who give to the needy from being sued. We ask for a similar clause in British law.
