There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

    • STOP THE ILLEGAL IVORY TRADE, SAVE ELEPHANTS, RHINOS and other endangered species

I'd read the other day there was a protest in London outside the Chinese Embassy to put pressure on the Chinese Government to make the ivory trade illegal. Apparently there was 150 people there, if I had know I would have gone too. We need to get more involved and get something done. I'd like to start a petition to get 100,000's on signatures to take to No 10 and the Chinese Embassy to SAVE this graceful creatures from extinction. We need to educate people that the herbal remedies do not work and owning ivory a crime. I don't know…

        • Clear labelling of all meats, Halal or non halal. Blessed or non blessed, stunned or not.

We are currently often completely unaware if the meat we are eating is Halal food or not. "Halal" means permissible in accordance with Islamic law must be performed by a Muslim, who must precede the slaughter by invoking the name of Allah, most commonly by saying "Bismillah" ("In the name of God") and then three times "Allahu akbar" (God is the greatest). Then, the animal must be slaughtered with a sharp knife by cutting the throat etc. Often the animal is not stunned which leads to unnecessary suffering. Clear labelling needs to put in place so we can act with…

          • Foreign aid used to create worthwhile jobs

Use at least a portion of the foreign aid budget to set up a Government organisation which hires professionals and motivated unemployed people to help countries in need develop infrastructure (shelter, wells, roads, farmland, education, hospitals) and deal with disasters. It will remedy issues that, rather than being solved by throwing money at the problem, requires a specifically targeted task force to build a long term solution alongside the community.
Having a large idle workforce is unacceptable when there's vital work that needs to be done. It would be a fantastic gateway job, getting young people out into the world,…

                • Further inquiry into the death of Dr David Kelly. Evidence in the News International court case supports a whitewash from ex-PM Tony Blair.

Evidence from the current News International court case supports earlier posts that a further inquiry needs to be made. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/hacking-trial-blair-39-offered-advice-brooks-39-171708071.html#hxQQdn8
Ex-PM Tony Blair advises Rebekah Brooks to have a 'controlled' inquiry headed by someone to "publish a Hutton (sic) style report". The invasion of Syria was only defeated by a House vote in reflection that MPs suspected the Iraq War was unjustified and not only did we lose those in the line of duty, but a UN weapons Inspector was murdered. Mr Blair needs to be questioned and accountable for, albeit, he will never be investigated for these war crimes.

                  • Dogs and cats killed in Sochi for Olympics

2000 street dogs and cats have been killed for the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014.
The Russian city of Sochi city has hired a private company to exterminate stray dogs during the 2014 Winter Olympic games. Claiming that it has an "obligation to the international community," one politician from the regional parliament, Sergei Krivonossov, says that there is "an obvious problem with animals living on the streets" and that "exterminating is the fastest way to solve the problem."

The city of Sochi stands to make 42,500 euros on the killing of the animals.
Animal activists have been protesting the…

                      • Government's refusal to accept any Syrian refugees.

Whilst this government is admittedly the second largest donor in aid / support fro refugees in countries neighbouring Syria, and whilst it is arguable that most Syrian refugees remain as close to their home land and culture as possible, the UK is currently unwilling to accept any of those refugees identified by the UN as most at risk. Given that the UK government is overtly supporting a moderate element of the opposition and therefore has some part in fuelling the continued conflict it is only right that it accepts its responsibilities to protect the most vulnerable families. Ultimately their current…

The International Bill of Human Rights is already a Campaign at http://you.38degrees.org.uk/p/bill-of-rights. So please support this now, instead of allowing it to 'wither on the vine'.

Most 38 Degrees Campaigns are Human Rights related, yet until this issue is clarified, and the Government forced into admitting their failures to respect 'legally binding Treaties with the UN, we will never get our rights upheld.

We have not been consulted over the ties our government has recently formed with an opressive authoritarian regime with one of the worst records in the world for both tranparency and human rights.

To oppose the proposed EU-US free trade agreement and raise awareness of its implications for domestic law.

The deal could have massive implications for many of the issues 38 Degrees campaigns about. It could essentially end our government's abilities to oppose large corporations on many issues; public health, the environment.

It would allow companies to sue governments who make rulings in their people or environments' favour! Awareness of this needs to be raised and fast.

                                • Call on UK Government to support a political settlement in Syria rather than sending more arms to fuel the conflict

The Middle East is already a hotbed of conflict - much of which is due to Western wars (Iraq, Afghanistan) and support for repressive regimes (Saudi, UAE, Bahrain, Israel). The British government should be seeking a political solution to the conflict in Syria, not supporting either side and certainly not sending arms or other support to either side.

                                  • The EU Tobacco Products Directive which will ban the sale of e cigs.

38 Degrees - MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE EU NEED YOUR URGENT HELP. This is about how Big Tobacco companies and Governments are conspiring to send e-cigarette smokers back into the arms of the tobacco giants, and the harmful tar and chemical filled products they sell.
E -cigarettes are the safer and cheaper alternative for nicotine addicts and for those who wish to stop 'smoking' altogether, but the EU directive wants to make these 'medicinal' rather than recreational, thus taking them off the market and making them only available on prescription.

                                      • Bombing Syria - Not in our name

As many others I am horrified at another case of a US-led coalition bombing another country with the bizarre claim that this is to protect human rights.. Despite the opposition of millions across the globe, we the people were ignored over Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. The situation in Syria must not follow suit.

Someone needs to put this more eloquently, but the Syria situation should be a 38 Degrees priority.

                                        • Not going into Syria without real proof about the chemical attack

Let the government know that we are not convinced that we have justification to send our troops into Syria based on current evidence of responsibility or chemical attack.
