Campaign suggestions
Welcome!
What is this part of the website for?
- 38 Degrees members decide together what we campaign on. One way members can suggest campaigns is through this part of the website.
- This part of the website also helps determine how popular campaigns are through the voting system.
- You can vote on campaigns other 38 Degrees members suggest here You have up to 10 votes you can use.
How can I suggest a campaign?
- If you’ve got an idea for what 38 Degrees should campaign on please share it here.
-By adding your campaign idea here you’ll give other 38 Degrees members the opportunity to comment, suggest improvements and vote on your idea.
- The most popular suggestions made here will be put to 38 Degrees members to discuss and vote on in other ways – e.g. on our facebook, twitter and blog, and through email polls.
- Get involved and have your say – your campaign might be the next to start an avalanche!
How do I use my vote?
- Every member has up to 10 votes, which you are free to use how ever you want.
- If you really keen on a particular campaign, you can use more than one vote. – We will email you when when your ideas are completed or deleted as your votes will return to you.
- You can also change your votes by clicking on them.
- You’ll get a digested email of any activity on your ideas, comments, status changes and admin responses.
What happens to my campaign suggestions and votes?
- 38 Degrees campaigns are driven by what members want to do. Uservoice one of a number of ways in which 38 Degrees members can say what they one to the 38 Degrees to work on.
- If an idea is really popular on this Uservoice part of the website 38 Degrees will consult members about the idea in other ways e.g. through discussions on our blog and Facebook group and through member surveys.
- Please note that an idea being popular on this part of the website does not guarantee that it will become a 38 Degrees campaign. This is because firstly this area of the site is not visted by all 38 Degrees members and secondly because it is possible for non-members to vote. This can potentially skew the results. If in a member survey the wider 38 Degrees membership says other issues are more important, those issues will take priority.
- If 38 Degrees members vote that an idea should be a priority in our main member survey as well as on this part of the web site, the 38 Degrees office team will start work to turn it into a campaign. You can see the results of these main member surveys here: http://blog.38degrees.org.uk/tag/poll/
Can I ask others to boost the ranking of my issue?
- It might feel tempting to try and boost the ranking of your favorite issue by encouraging loads of people not involved with 38 Degrees to come and vote for it.
- Please don’t do this — this is intended as a space for 38 Degrees members to discuss together what they want us to do.
Are there any rules?
- It’s really important that the 38 Degrees website is a place where we can all have a healthy debate – which is why we don’t moderate comments or campaign suggestions before they are published. However, to ensure our site stays family friendly we have a few rules that you can read here:

On Monday May 6th a draconian new law was put before the European Commission, which creates new powers to classify and regulate all plant life anywhere in Europe.
The "Plant Reproductive Material Law" regulates all plants. It contains immediate restrictions on vegetables and woodland trees, while creating powers to restrict all other plants of any other species at a later date.
Under the new law, it will immediately be illegal to grow, reproduce or trade any vegetable seed or tree that has not been tested and approved by a new "EU Plant Variety Agency, who will make a list of…

Contaminated Blood: ‘An avoidable human tragedy‘, no accountability and a 25 year fight for justice.
In the late 1970s/early 1980s, over 4,800 British Haemophiliacs were knowingly infected with Hepatitis C through D.O.H approved N.H.S treatment. A further 1,200+ were also infected with HIV, the virus that leads to AIDS. Of those 1200, only 360 remain and hundreds have died from Hepatitis C. The rest are left in the shadows of terminal illness with no official backed Government inquiry into the circumstances of how this deplorable situation happened.
This is just the tip of the iceberg for our community. We’ve been exposed to and infected with potentially hundreds of other contaminants, such as C.M.V, Hepatitis B…

Against the flawed tendering process for Legal Aid
The Ministry of Justice has proposed a legal aid tendering system which is deeply flawed and threatens legal aid provision. With little consultation, they propose a competitive tendering system taking no account of quality, as introducing a new system which would effectively shut down small and medium sized solicitors' firms. This leaves no place for expertise, local knowledge, or choice. With the scheme being rolled out across the whole country at the same time, a huge risk is being taken with the principle of justice in pursuit of savings which are not even guaranteed. Our justice system is too important…

STOP THE SHAIL GAS OUTLET PIPE AT ROSSAL POINT OFF BLACKPOOL,
They are planning to push though planning permission to build a giant pipe outlet, to pump millions of gallons of very strong brine solution and possibly other chemicals, off Rossall point Blackpool This could potentially have effects on the Lune Deeps, Morecambe Bay and the new conservation zone at Heysham. The strong brine solution is said to be heavier then the natural sea water and could sink into the Lune deeps with every tide, killing any sea life in the area. This could be devastating for the Fylde Coast PLEASE HELP TO GET THIS STOPPED

Shared Parental Leave - New mothers should have legal right to express their breastmilk on return to work
The Children and Families Bill 2012-13 - Proposed Shared Parental leave means new mothers can choose to return to work when their baby is just 2 weeks old. WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life. Women who choose to breastfeed should have the legal right to express and store their breastmilk so they can breastfeed for as long as they want. Mothers do not have to stop breastfeeding if they need or want to return to work.

Fight the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Act
I felt that this message should be made available to all photographers and artists (so please forward this on).
If this gets passed then you will lose ALL rights to your pictures as it will not take much for an unscrupulous individual or company to remove your meta data and start making money from YOUR images and you will not get a thing as it will be classed as an orphan image. We need the help of photography magazines and a possible petition to stop us losing our rights - even David Bailey is outraged!

Action urged to protect brown hares from further decline
The brown hare population has been falling for many years as a result of shooting parties and habitat loss.
(Nearly 400,000 are shot every year)
Hares are the only game species in England and Wales not protected by a closed hunting season. An old 17th century law - the 1880 Ground Game Act - means they can be shot throughout the year, even during the breeding season.5 votes -

bring in legislation to prevent merchant ships from dumping PIB into our coastal waters
To put pressure on the environment minister to update the Bonn Convention and ban PIB dumping. To add signature s to the petition www.avaaz.org/en/Save_our_Sea_Birds_Stop_dumping_polyisobutylene_into_our_seas .
I live in Plymouth and often walk my dog with my young family along the coast paths in and around the city. It has been heartbreaking to see not only many dead sea birds washed up on the beach, but the miles of effluent slick on the surface of the sea. It is currently legal for PIB to be released, under the Bonn Convention it is legal for merchant ships to flush their tanks at…5 votes -

Cutting funding for children with special needs in east cheshire schools
Micheal Gove has recentley cut funds for all children with special needs in east cheshire schools. This will now have to come out of the regular school funds and the money simply isn't there! This could mean that some children with complex behavioural problems will not have one to one support from an adult and may not be able to attend school. This would put pressure on their parents who need a break. It has also been done a year earlier than proposed without parents being informed until after the fact.I believe this is discriminating against children who may already be at a disadvantage…

Cats
I hate cats and cat shit.
What, why do you hate cats?
Those lovable fluffy bundles of fluffiness?
Tame vermin more like! So, why do I hate cats?
Well, firstly I have a severe allergy to cats, especially fluffy cats, the fluffier the cat the worse my allergy. This allergy makes me itch, then, my eyes water and then I start to sneeze my head off. This continues for several hours after I´ve moved away from the cats or the house which they where in.
However an even bigger reason I hate them is nothing to do with my allergy…
