Audit the banks
There is an urgent need for the major banks operating in the UK, including the privately-owned central bank the Bank Of England, to be investigated for negligence and possible fraud.
Why? Because the people of this country are being asked to pay back, through inflation and austerity measures, a debt that has been assigned to us by the steadily imploding financial sector with direct collusion from the government.
In 2007 and 2008 the Icelandic people demanded audits of their banks, which revealed approximately 91% of the debt they - the people - had been asked to pay was not in fact owed by the country of Iceland at all, but had been fraudulently contrived by the banks through dishonest global transactions.
It is very surprising that the citizens of other European countries have not yet followed Iceland's example.
The first step is to demand a comprehensive and completely transparent audit of all UK-operating banks and financial institutions that have received bailouts, or cash injections resulting from quantitative easing, since 2007, and a simultaneous audit of the BOE which has facilitated these processes.
Full disclosure of the role of banking staff and government ministers, and full disclosure of how the money has been spent by the recipient institutions, is also required.
Once at least some information about this has been obtained, it can be used as the foundation upon which to mount criminal investigations and prosecutions of all those involved in the continued looting of the people of this country.
38 Degrees can either get behind the existing direct.gov e-petition "Audit the banks" (http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/32574) or a newly worded petition could be drafted and voted on.
It is hard to think of a more important issue for the people of Britain at this time. 38 Degrees members please vote now to get this to the top of the agenda.
