Raise awareness and stop the Personal Independence Payment assesments
Raise the awareness of the humiliating assesments carried out for Personal Independence Payments.
Carried out by non-medically qualified personnel with the sole aim of forcing some of the most vulnerable people in dire need.
Help to stop this now

The new Personal Independence Payment assessment criteria due to replace Disability Living Allowance in 2013 fail almost completely to recognise the needs of those like myself who have been totally blind from birth. The criteria suggest that we will have 'adapted' to our disability and that we should therefore receive less money than we currently receive under Disability Living Allowance. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth. My needs as a totally blind person cannot and will not diminish over time. Much of my Disability Living Allowance is used to pay for taxis to enable me to travel independently, safely and reliably. The rest is used to purchase expensive specialised aids to enable me to accomplish tasks which sighted people take for granted in other ways. If any of this funding were taken away, my isolation would drastically increase and my quality of life would correspondingly plummet. The PIP assessment criteria are unacceptable as they stand and I am asking that they be radically changed to create a fair assessment and a level playing field for everyone. I work full-time, pay my taxes, contribute to the economy and sustain a mortgage. What I need in return is a listening understanding government who will help those who help themselves!
