Save the bees! Ban neonicitinoid pesticides

New scientific reports have just been published firmly linking declining bee populations with neonicitinoid pesticides. These pesticides have been banned in France and Italy, but are still used in UK and US. The decline of bees is a major threat to global food production. Now the link has been established by two scientific studies, now is the time to put pressure on the government to cease the use of these chemicals.

Owen Paterson (Environment Secretary) is going to vote against the EU plan to ban neonicitinoid pesticides. This is an ill-considered move - bees are vital to the pollination of crops and other plants. They are already under pressure from colony collapse and varroa mite. This measure will only make matters worse.
