Stop Squatting from becoming a criminal offence
PM David Cameron wants to make squatting a criminal offence, which would unfairly punish the poor and homeless who have no other option since waiting lists for social housing are long and deal with priority cases.
Until now squatting has been a civil offence with the added protection of violent evictions being illegal. Court procedures are required to evict squatters, which are normally granted. There is no need to make squatting a criminal offence as the current laws work well enough to protect both home owners and squatters.
A criminal record is not something which desperate people should have to face!

Sorry, but it should be a criminal offence. Most squatters ruin the homes they take over, It belongs to someone else.
