The proposed High Speed train (HS2) link up between Birmingham and London will be an environmental disaster. It will cute vast swathes through the English countryside and ruin villages and towns which will not benefit from this massive £25.5bn waste of money. HS1 lost money and is being sold off because of the losses. Stop this NOW!

The cost of the track alone is (or was in 2009 and before the recent 'tweaks') £32 BILLION. That does not account for anything else essential to its operation - such as rolling stock, compulsory purchase and compensation payments.
You are right - HS1 is a disaster and HS2 a disaster waiting to happen unless this money-mad government comes to its senses - or the British public manages to delay things enough until the end of this parliamentary session.
We only have to note that the British tax payer is being taxed to pay for this white elephant - no investor with any common sense will touch it with a barge pole.

HS2 will be a financial disaster for every taxpayer in the UK as the actual cost benefit ratio is now negative at 0.9/1.0, and falling, that means that for very £ spent the return will only be 90 pence or less!

This is a really important issue and one we ought to lobby really hard for. It will totally decimate the countryside and nature reserves etc. along its path. The Government obviously does not care about our natural world!. It is an unnecessary expense, the money could be put towards improving existing lines or opening up disused lines where possible and where there is a real need. But this is mainly about the environmental issues - decimating SSSis etc. Liane Fairall

This link will ruin so many communities that will gain no benefit from it at all. Go underground and affect no one or don't do it at all
