Banning Page 3 as it symbolises the sexism, misogyny & oppression still rife in the UK
As a cultural icon, Page 3 symbolises not only the acceptance and normalisation of pornography within our daily newspapers but the sexual objectification of women and girls that permeates our culture in general - and thus, ultimately, symbolises our unequal status.
The death of sexism is a battle not yet won in this country and the proliferation of this image of women and girls within our mainstream press is perpetuating and fueling sexism by, at best, encouraging and endorsing negative attitudes towards us and within us, at worst, acts of violence commited against us. All of which grossly limit our choices, stall our progress and violate our human rights.
This campaign demands that the government addresses the subject of Page 3 today and by doing so demonstrates to society that it is serious about stamping out sexism once and for all. We cannot waste any more time and we will not wait any longer. The government either values and respects the female half of humanity or it doesn't and as a start, the removal of Page 3 from our every day lives, because of its cultural significance would be a momentus step in the right direction in proving to society that is does.
Together, we must work to eradicate all forms of sexism in order for women to become politically, socially, economically and personally equal to men. We cannot be a progressive and prosperous society otherwise.
Turn Your Back On Page 3.
Say NO to sexism.

page three shouldnt be in a newspaper. 1. because it is not news and 2. for the same reasons sexual content is not supposed to be shown on tv before the watershed. The fact that we allow it in such an accessible format to people makes it seem normal, and doesnt teach impressionable people any respect for women. its also soft porn that is accessible to children. i dont see shopkeepers refusing to sell copies to schoolboys.
The other things that need to be addressed by newspapers such as The Sun is their blatant misogyny in the headlines and stories they print, as shown in the examples on this campaigns facebook page. For too long have men run the media. For example, rape cases have to be seriously violent, or end in death if they r to get any more than an inch of column space (if they are reported at all) yet the minute the media get a whiff of what seems to be the story of some idiot woman making up a rape allegation, and its front page news, to make THAT seem the norm, spreading the belief that women who say they have been raped are lieing.
we need to take a stand against the sexist media! and this is a really good place to start!
either that or maybe we should start a newspaper with a naked man on page three? see how the men like that?
Let the government start action as promised. Ban Page 3, long overdue.

"Harriet Harman, L.Featherstone to name but two have recently campaigned to ban Page 3."
Lynne did say that before she got into power. I phoned our Equalities Minister recently but she was too busy to discuss it.

David Cameron promised he would tackle the growing problem of the sexualisation of young people, in particular young girls (playboy products aimed at pre-teenagers etc, sexually charged logons on T-Shirts,vests etc) When girls are now growing up aspiring to be on 'Page 3', and turning their backs on professional careers, David Cameron and his government need to tackle Page 3 as part of their clamp down on 'sexualisation' campaign. Ban it; shame Clare Short didnt years ago when she obvioulsy saw what long term damage it would do in grooming the next generation. Harriet Harman, L.Featherstone to name but two have recently campaigned to ban Page 3, Perhaps as part of Harriet Harmans equality bill, progressive action which is long overdue. Ban it!

"The recent sacking of two sky reporters for 'sexist' remarks should be the opening needed to finally ban page 3. Same Murdoch empire displaying complete double standards. Page 3 is obvious sexism, displayed openly in a National Newspaper. Ban it now."
HEAR HEAR, EXACTLY!!! KEEP SPREADING THE WORD! THIS CAMPAIGN IS ONLY GOING TO GROW AND GROW!
The recent sacking of two sky reporters for 'sexist' remarks should be the opening needed to finally ban page 3. Same Murdoch empire displaying complete double standards. Page 3 is obvious sexism, displayed openly in a National Newspaper. Ban it now.

Its porn, and should be regulated as such (top shelf only).
When we've got young girls stating 'being a glamour model' as their ambition, it's time to take action, ban it now.

This blatant misogyny has no place in the modern world.

Disgusting that p3 still exists. And completely inexplicable
I cannot believe that we still have page 3 in 2011.
A ban is decades overdue.
I believe, Harriet Harman, Diane Abbott, Lynn Featherstone to name but a few, plus Clare Short many years, all addressed the serious issues of portraying Page 3 'icons' in our National Newspapers. Grooming a culture within the UK where teenage girls aspire to be 'glamour models/page 3' far more than professionals such as Doctors, Lawyers, Teachers etc. What kind of society are we creating?? Long overdue banning Page 3 and all it symbolises in the UK.
I thought Page 3 was banned by Labour's Harriet Harman....if not, should be banned now. Equality Bill etc.

Page 3 your time is up
It's completely disgraceful that this is still allowed to form part of 'news' papers in the 21st century.

ban it .it's shit

Was this not a campaign Harriet Harman and Lynn Featherstone were promising to take on; to Ban Page 3 as is was so disrespectful towards women. The equalities bill introduced should have included Page 3, as it included so much with regard to respect and equality for women in the 21st Century. Page 3 should absolutely be banned...this is the 21st Century.

Great campaign. Should have been banned when Claire Short bought it to public attention years ago!
Time to ban it. Agree.
