I suggest a campaign about ...

Banning Page 3 as it symbolises the sexism, misogyny & oppression still rife in the UK

As a cultural icon, Page 3 symbolises not only the acceptance and normalisation of pornography within our daily newspapers but the sexual objectification of women and girls that permeates our culture in general - and thus, ultimately, symbolises our unequal status.

The death of sexism is a battle not yet won in this country and the proliferation of this image of women and girls within our mainstream press is perpetuating and fueling sexism by, at best, encouraging and endorsing negative attitudes towards us and within us, at worst, acts of violence commited against us. All of which grossly limit our choices, stall our progress and violate our human rights.

This campaign demands that the government addresses the subject of Page 3 today and by doing so demonstrates to society that it is serious about stamping out sexism once and for all. We cannot waste any more time and we will not wait any longer. The government either values and respects the female half of humanity or it doesn't and as a start, the removal of Page 3 from our every day lives, because of its cultural significance would be a momentus step in the right direction in proving to society that is does.

Together, we must work to eradicate all forms of sexism in order for women to become politically, socially, economically and personally equal to men. We cannot be a progressive and prosperous society otherwise.

Turn Your Back On Page 3.

Say NO to sexism.

DEMAND EQUALITY.

This objectification of women is backwards and doesn't help women to achieve equality. It must stop!

i am disgusted that it is assumed as 'normal' for a man to be in public with the paper open fully displaying the page 3 model to everyone including children, i pay to protect my children from images such as this online but they are exposed to it anyway!! i am sick of asking men to stop displaying that image and getting rudeness back! time to get rid

Oh no, The Sun will have to make up a few more stories to fill the blank page. I'm sure that'll be tough for them.

I'm sending this on to to EVERYBODY!

        Nighty night Page 3!

For far too long, Page 3 has been seen as some sort of cultural icon. It is nothing more than sexist bigotry, particularly when juxtaposed next to the editorial outrage at the murder of women etc. Clare Short was shot down in flames many years ago for debating the subject. There is a huge social network now that can take this forward. Where there is a will......

The Sun's Page 3 is the tip of a very large iceberg. Obliterating it would be a getting rid of a significant symbol of sexism and complete lack of respect for women, attitudes which seem to be growing and that should not be happening in a supposedly civilised society.

The normalised nonchalant appraisal, consumption and disgarding of young nearly-naked females that is the purpose of Page 3 in the country's most popular paper, leads to the sexual bullying of girls and women who have to live/grow up with this in their households, sexual harassment of women and girls by readers of this publication on the street, in social settings and at work, and an insidious culture of callous disrespect for all women as it goes unchallenged by those who do not consume it.

        100% behind this campaign.
Objectification of women is a proven factor in the increase of domestic abuse. Say no more!

"Two sports commentators were recently sacked for sexist remarks by the same Murdoch empire that promotes sexism in The Sun - where are the logic or ethics?"

This is EXACTLY why the time is now to challenge sexism in all its forms. Society/media giants cannot pick and choose what and who it decides to condemn as and when it feels like it.

Definitely. In fact I'm surprised 38 Degrees hasn't taken this on already as it's such a clear case of female oppression that our sexualisation is ever present on news stands. Women - mostly white, always young, always skinny - are shown as submissive, ever ready for sex, and with little on their minds beyond being an object for men to take out their fantasies on and in. The fact that these images are in 'newspapers' makes them all the more insidious in normalising the 'woman as sex' culture.

Yes! I totally agree. I refuse to live in a society where a newspaper has so much power even MP's don't want to take this on! I am demanding equality!

I cannot believe pornography is sold as news. This is an outdated disgrace which needs to be banned. I wholeheartedly support this policy.
