Campaign suggestions
Welcome!
What is this part of the website for?
- 38 Degrees members decide together what we campaign on. One way members can suggest campaigns is through this part of the website.
- This part of the website also helps determine how popular campaigns are through the voting system.
- You can vote on campaigns other 38 Degrees members suggest here You have up to 10 votes you can use.
How can I suggest a campaign?
- If you’ve got an idea for what 38 Degrees should campaign on please share it here.
-By adding your campaign idea here you’ll give other 38 Degrees members the opportunity to comment, suggest improvements and vote on your idea.
- The most popular suggestions made here will be put to 38 Degrees members to discuss and vote on in other ways – e.g. on our facebook, twitter and blog, and through email polls.
- Get involved and have your say – your campaign might be the next to start an avalanche!
How do I use my vote?
- Every member has up to 10 votes, which you are free to use how ever you want.
- If you really keen on a particular campaign, you can use more than one vote. – We will email you when when your ideas are completed or deleted as your votes will return to you.
- You can also change your votes by clicking on them.
- You’ll get a digested email of any activity on your ideas, comments, status changes and admin responses.
What happens to my campaign suggestions and votes?
- 38 Degrees campaigns are driven by what members want to do. Uservoice one of a number of ways in which 38 Degrees members can say what they one to the 38 Degrees to work on.
- If an idea is really popular on this Uservoice part of the website 38 Degrees will consult members about the idea in other ways e.g. through discussions on our blog and Facebook group and through member surveys.
- Please note that an idea being popular on this part of the website does not guarantee that it will become a 38 Degrees campaign. This is because firstly this area of the site is not visted by all 38 Degrees members and secondly because it is possible for non-members to vote. This can potentially skew the results. If in a member survey the wider 38 Degrees membership says other issues are more important, those issues will take priority.
- If 38 Degrees members vote that an idea should be a priority in our main member survey as well as on this part of the web site, the 38 Degrees office team will start work to turn it into a campaign. You can see the results of these main member surveys here: http://blog.38degrees.org.uk/tag/poll/
Can I ask others to boost the ranking of my issue?
- It might feel tempting to try and boost the ranking of your favorite issue by encouraging loads of people not involved with 38 Degrees to come and vote for it.
- Please don’t do this — this is intended as a space for 38 Degrees members to discuss together what they want us to do.
Are there any rules?
- It’s really important that the 38 Degrees website is a place where we can all have a healthy debate – which is why we don’t moderate comments or campaign suggestions before they are published. However, to ensure our site stays family friendly we have a few rules that you can read here:

Stop war with Iran at all costs. Don't let our government and media make it seem just or innevitable
We are careering toward a war with Iran. While America beefs up it's arms in the area, provokes Iran wth verbal threats of action and while it supports the villainisation of Iran the media are trying to convince us that the war is just.
Let's stand up and say no to a war with Iran at all costs. By diplomacy only.128 votes -
LEAVE THE EU BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
The awful monster known as the EU is gradually controlling every aspect of our lives, imposing ridiculous laws upon us and wasting millions of our hard earned money on empire building bureaucrats, did you know every month the European parliament up’s sticks and moves from Brussels to Strasburg, this nonsense costs 180million euros per annum. Everyone seems to forget that idiot Gordon Brown robbed us of a referendum, it’s time for the British people to stand up and be counted!

Seize the Opportunity for Jobs and Growth, Support renewable powerDear Mr Osborne,
I write to declare astonishment that your policies appear continually ignorant of the magnitude of the business opportunity presented to UK PLC by the global necessity of delivering lower carbon industrialised economies. It is cited by many as being the ‘third industrial revolution’ but, having personally worked in power generation in several EU countries, the UK continues to be a reluctant bit part player, big on talk, lacking in delivery.
In your recent speech you stated that the…

The Prime Minister should attend the Rio+20 meeting in June 2011
David Cameron will not be attending the Rio+20 meeting - a once in a generation opportunity to work with other world leaders to progress environmental and social progress. Instead he will stay in the UK to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. Please sign this petition and send a message to the PM that, though we love street parties, global action on the environment is more important.

Stop Unscrupulous Park Owners (UPO's) from ripping caravan owners off.
In the UK. there are many unscrupulous Caravan Park Owners (UPO's) who consistently charge 15% commission + VAT. when a caravan on their park is sold privately (the Park owner has no input to the sale) They also charge the caravan owner £600 to move the caravan from the pitch to the main gate - maybe 100 metres. They also put a 10 year "Cap" on the age of a caravan if it is sold, so the owner needs to either move off the site or buy another caravan. This is when the caravan's usable life can be more than…

The House of Commons Bar no longer being tax free
In this time of austerity, Dave's Big Society and our politicians trying to find new ways to raise revenues, isn't it time that MPs started to pay tax on their alcohol like the rest of us do? Let's get the tax free status of the Parliament bar changed and start to see our MPs act like the rest of us.

Don't nuke the UK - Stop back-door subsidies which fix the energy market to make nuclear economic
Although the Coalition has promised ‘no subsidies’ for new nuclear, the Government’s imminent Energy market White Paper the market will force up the price of electricity enough to make new nuclear power economic. The Coalition has been listening to the nuclear power companies’ strong lobbying for a carbon floor price, a mechanism to reduce revenue uncertainty for low carbon generation, and a new capacity mechanism. The Coalition is fixing the energy market for new nuclear, whilst the existing bill for legacy rad-waste is around £100 billion.

Reduce the by-catch from fishing, stop the EU
millions of tonnes of fish along with thousands of sharks, dolphins, seabirds and other marine animals are killed/wasted whilst fishing/trawling. The EU believe it is to protect the fish stocks which is clearly wrong. It is because of the Common Fisheries Policy, if we all work together and show the EU how wrong they are we can change the policy.

Oppose the badger cull by buying milk and produce only from badger-friendly farms. Campaign for a badger-friendly milk label.
The government has decided to go ahead with its plan to cull badgers. Even the government's own data shows its plan will be ineffective or counter productive. They are playing to their own supporters.
We can counter this by campaigning for the supermarkets to introduce a badger-friendly label for produce from farms that don't harm badgers. This will use our power as consumers to apply pressure on the supermarkets and farmers. If farmers want this label, they will have to act differently, and they are then almost certain to press their MP to seriously support the development of a vaccine.

Rights for children to have a relationship with fathers and grandparents
Too many children are prevented by bitter women from having a happy and loving relationship with their fathers and grandparents. This is not in the interest of the chid and it’s heartbreaking for children, grandparents and fathers. Going to a solicitor is so slow and can take nearly a year, a year out of a young child’s life is a long time and is precious to everyone……. they have no say

Campaign for a Shared Parenting Act.
The Government's recent proposals on Family Law reform do not go far enough. What is needed is a Shared Parenting Act.
Shared parenting makes sense because when you are in a relationship and have children you share the parenting of them, so why should it be any different if your relationship breaks down?
Shared parenting works in Belgium. It also works in various states of the USA.
There has been an inbuilt discrimination against fathers in the Family Courts for the past two decades. A Shared Parenting Act would level the playing field and it would give a generation of…
